Tullahoma woman charged after downtown Manchester Shooting

A woman has been taken into custody and charged with attempted murder after police say she shot her soon-to-be ex-husband outside a law firm in Coffee County.

Brenda Bartee is accused of shooting her husband Dr. Harry Bartee around 1:20 p.m. Wednesday on North Spring Street in Manchester, near the law firm of Rogers, Duncan and North.

It was not clear what led Brenda Bartee to shoot her estranged husband.

Rebecca Pressley owns a coffee shop just off of the square in downtown Manchester. She said Brenda had just been in her shop an hour before the shooting and said nothing seemed wrong.

“She seemed like she was about to go do something she didn’t want to do, like give a deposition for her divorce, but not shoot her husband,” Presley said.

Harry Bartee was transported by medical helicopter to Erlanger Hospital in Chattanooga. His exact condition was not available.

Brenda Bartee was taken into custody at the scene. Officials said she would be booked and charged with criminal attempt to commit first degree murder.

Bond had not yet been set.
